Ennis Fuels & Burner Service

Celebrates 54th Anniversary!

Ennis Fuels & Burner Service, proud of their success, thanks employees, customers, suppliers and friends for their support.

In a proud statement issued from their company headquarters, Ennis Fuels & Burner Service announced that 2008 is the 54thAnniversary of the founding of their business. The company was started back in 1954, the same year The Tonight Show started, but its first host wasn't Johnny Carson, it was Steve Allen. This was way back when Ike was President. In those days, we weren't arguing whether Elvis was dead because almost nobody knew he was alive. As an unknown singer, Elvis Presley recorded a song in a Memphis studio, and had to pay $4 per hour for studio time! Perhaps some of his music was inspired by music of this year, Mister Sandman, Stranger in Paradise, Shake Rattle and Roll, and Hey There.

Important Events of 1954

  • The first TV dinners were sold in stores
  • Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio tied the knot
  • Steak was only 91 cents/lb.
  • Ennis Fuels & Burner Service started its first year in business

What Else Happened in 1954?

IBM introduced their new "Electronic Brain", about as powerful as today's laptop computer. They wouldn't sell them, but businesses could lease one for "only" $25,000 per month.
Speaking of nuts, it was this year that M&M added them to their candy line.

Yes, when you think about it, things have changed a lot in 54 years. But, after all this time there are some things which have remained the same... some things which, fortunately, haven't fallen by the wayside.

Entertainment & Sports

Tv.wmf (7098 bytes)Father really did know best (it was the year's hit TV show) and the star of another family TV show was just being born: Ron Howard, who would soon star on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days and then go on to become a very successful director. At the moviesIt was this year that we were able to watch television in all its glorious color at home, as RCA began mass production of the color TV set. Families still had to go out to catch the excitement of the "big screen". We watched, as big as life, The Barefoot Contessa, Sabrina, and On the Waterfront with Marlin Brando.

Football This was the first year you could see the colors of the players uniforms! In sports, New York beat Cleveland 4-0 to win the World Series and the Red Wings beat the Canadiens for the Stanley Cup.

One good thing is that Ennis Fuels & Burner Service is still around and thriving after 54 years of hard work and lots of dedication by everyone involved.
